Srinivas Youngmens Association has been rendering social service for more than 3 decades.  Our present activities include running of a Medical Centre and Medical lab – providing consultation and medicines to poor at Rs.2/- per consultation.  We have been running a tuition centre ‘SYMA Growth’ providing free tuition to 10th and + 2 students.  Close to 150 students are benefitted here.

In a city bustling with population, there are many civic woes.  By highlighting or listing out the troubles one after the other would lead us nowhere.  With a mission that ‘Together We will succeed’ we have been actively coordinating with various Government Departments and other authorities in ensuring cleanliness and hygiene of the environment.

On Nov 6th, 2011, at  Bharathiyar Illam, Triplicane, Chennai 600005, we organized a “Face to Face” meet of the residents with Government officials.  It was just a beginning to make our Ward o. 116 a model ward in conservancy, civic cleanliness and more.  There are many problems galore in Triplicane,  garbage, overflowing of sewage, cattle menace, stray dogs, inadequate lighting, and the like.

Our Ward (No. 116) Councillor Mr B Srinivasan @ MGR Vasan has been exhibiting appreciable trait of listening to the grievances of public and various civic welfare organizations.  He was appreciative of our idea of arranging for a Face to Face meeting and helped us in organizing this by ensuring the presence of Officials representing various Government Department

To ensure that the grievances are appropriately put forward and are not duplicated, SYMA had distributed pamphlets detailing the meeting and providing a sheet for listing out the grievances.  We received more than 200 forms, which were sorted department-wise.  SYMA President from one side of the Podium read out the grievances pertaining to Corporation and Me from the other side read out the rest of the problems of the residents.

Most of those related to : stagnation of water in roads, garbage not being cleaned properly, cement road and roads being dug often but left not properly closed, streets not cleaned, creation of litter free zones, raising the hygiene, stopping urinating in public places and keeping them clean, cattle menace – the loitering of stray cattle on streets injuring and troubling the residents, street dogs and cat menace, mosquito control, regulation near vegetable market, traffic problems, suggesting one way at Big street, trouble faced by residents arising out of TASMAC shop in Triplicane High Road, disturbances arising out of obstruction, unregulated parking, trees and the like to the procession of Sri Parthasarathi perumal, more police monitoring, making the Triplicane MRTS clean and more easily accessible, allowing playing games in Marina beach, naming a bus stand near Triplicane as ‘Sri Parthasarathi koil’ bus stop and more.
