Thiruvadipuram rains ! ~ Tagore's Nobobarsha [new showers]

Rains are refreshing, they are welcome !!  For Rabindranath Tagore, rain (Varsha) was far more than a meteorological event—it was a profound spiritual, emotional, and sensory experience. The monsoon holds a central place in his poetry, music (Rabindra Sangeet), and prose.

Rabindranath Tagore's iconic poem Nobobarsha (New Showers / New Rains), written in 1900 and published in his collection Kshanika, captures the ecstatic onset of the monsoon.

Hridoy aamar nache re aajike moyurer mato nache re.

Shato baroner bhaabo-uchchhas kalaaper mato korechhe bikash,

Aakul paran aakashe chaahiya ullaase kaare jaache re.

Hridoy aamar nache re aajike moyurer mato nache re.

My heart dances today — dances like a peacock. Like the shimmer of its plumes, My heart glistens with rapturous colors. When I see the sky, my longing loses itself in euphoria. My heart dances today — dances like a peacock.  The clouds rumble, rumble high up in the heavens. The rain rushes in; the new stalks of rice quiver. Doves shiver silently in their nests, frogs croak in flooded fields,

On 14.8.2026 around 7.30 pm during Thiruvadipura purappadu, rain lashed, and here is a photo of the showers taken from 36 kaal mandapam of Sri Parthasarathi thirukkovil
