The Maltese is an
ancient companion breed associated historically with the Mediterranean island
of Malta. They are small but surprisingly lively and intelligent. Their long
white coat is one of their most distinctive characteristics.
They are
generally: Very affectionate and people-oriented; Intelligent and quite
trainable; playful; Low-shedding,
although their long coat requires regular grooming and brushing
One particularly
endearing characteristic is that Maltese often have a very expressive face. The combination of the partly covered eyes, black nose and
tongue hanging out makes the dog look almost as though it is smiling at the
photographer.
