IPL 6 - match 2 RCB V MI ~ Jasprit Bumrah, Who ????

IPL is mired with politics and you have enough reasons to hate it…. but Cricket that too the instant variety is so engrossing ~ still there is place for some good overs – the ‘unexpected happening’ is what makes it more interesting.

In the first match, no Viru, David Warner opened with young Unmukt Chand – the first ball from Brett Lee, he was gone, clean bowled.

Prior to that in the ‘Extra Innings’ – alongside Sidhu, there was surprise……….. in the form of Kapil Dev – the once pillar of ICL lending voice pre-match to IPL !

Today, it was the mighty Chris Gayle and you expected explosion ~ Mitchell Johnson who had a poor run in India tour, bowled a beast of first delivery, which swung, moved viciously, could not take the outside edge – it was a great first over………. then I felt Dilshan and Gayle would go after Munaf, which also did not happen. Dilshan was cleaned up by Johnson – in walked Virat Kohli and neatly tucked the first delivery he faced for a boundary.

Then came the boy wonder – with an awkward action, a rookie called Bumrah, who ? – and what an opportunity at 19 to play with Sachin, Ricky Ponting and Pollard……….. it is Jasprit Jasbirsingh Bumrah from Gujarat, bowls right arm medium with an indescribable action.

End of over 4 – RCB are 7 with Gayle 3 off 7; runs in bowls – short and wide, gets slammed over cover for 4; 2nd again goes through cover; 3rd gets a minor respite; 4th again banged over cover for another 4

A nightmare of a start and how is he going to bowl to Gayle one thought. Groundsmen are in as he has landed poorly almost outside the crease.  Off the fifth, an incoming delivery traps Virat Kohli and shouts with joy. Ponting, Sachin, all run towards him…………….. more to follow as the first ball of 7th over has Mayank Agarwal too… what a sensational debut.

Bumrah went on to collect one more and finished at 4-0-32-3; RCB’s over dependence on Gayle was so evident…. he ended up unbeaten 92 off 58 … taking 17 off the 18th over from Munaf Patel and another 15 in the final over of Munaf. Now a reasonable target of 157 set…
