wonder tooth brush - ultimate in oral hygiene

The first thing that greets a person is the smile and hence it is all about ‘teeth’.  Teeth are intended to last a lifetime – olden days, people never had so much of problems with their tooth and there were not so many dentists around.  An average person has 32 teeth. That number includes 4 wisdom teeth. We have 8 incisors, 4 canines, 12 molars and 8 pre-molars.

Marketing has done more damage to tooth than anything else – in olden days, people used tree branches especially of  Indian Banyan tree and that of neem tree.

Now the advertisement asks you, whether there is salt in your toothpaste ? – why salt – and if it is essential, why the same brand was not having it earlier nor having salt in some other products of the same brand.  Colgate [forget coalgate for sometime] has become a household name; the other top brand toothpastes  are – Colgate, Pepsodent, Babool, SEnsodyne, Cibaca, Neem, Vicco and more..

Life starts with brushing of teeth and coffee immediately thereafter. Healthy teeth and gums are important for many reasons. Teeth bite, tear, and chew food when you eat. Teeth also help you speak clearly.  You have so many Company oriented with tooth products and there are umpteen dental hygienists claiming to be  your partners in health. They are health care professionals who teach you how to keep your mouth, teeth, and gums healthy.

Some statistics state that 75% of the United States population suffer from some stage of periodontal gum disease. In US, people who tend to drink 3 or more glasses of carbonated drinks daily have 62% more tooth decay, fillings and tooth loss than others.

Getting back to where we start our day – it is tooth brush and tooth paste, integral parts.  It is stated that toothbrush has been in existence from 1500s – though not in their present pristine form, but ones made from figs, tree branches, bristles from hogs, horses and badgers.

Dentists advise that one should replace their toothbrush as often as required.  Gums should not bleed upon brushing. This is an indication of a gum infection. Sore bleeding gums and pink in the sink are not normal.  Some advise to ear  plenty of detergent foods to keep your teeth clean. Examples include apples, carrots, celery and other raw vegetables and fruits.

So much of premium is placed on ‘tooth brush’ the oral hygiene instrument which cleanses teeth and gums.  Some  recommend using a toothbrush labelled "soft", since hard bristled toothbrushes can damage tooth enamel and irritate the gums. Most modern day toothbrushes  are made of  synthetic fibres.   There are electric ones too – they use  electric power supplied usually by a battery to move the brush head rapidly, eitheroscillating side to side, or rotation-oscillation (where brush heads rotate in one direction and then the other).

All that is ordinary – can you imagine of a toothbrush that can tell on your brushing habits and would even sound your dentist on that.  Technological marvel – yes, brushes with Bluetooth which would tell your smartphone how well you brush are on the anvil according to a report filed by Eddie Wrenn in www.dailymail.co.uk.

The time  attached to the brush  ensures you do a good two-minute scrub each time. The report states that the new toothbrush tries to inject some fun to the twice-daily scrub, with a smartphone app that monitors your strokes and awards you gold stars for your ability to brush. The Beam toothbrush might be a boon to parents who are trying to get their children to brush, and it may inspire every owner to take more care of their pearls. But be warned, if you shun your teeth too much - the device could let your dentist know you have been bunking off. The device connects wirelessly to your phone, literally putting the 'tooth' into 'Bluetooth'.

The reluctant brusher can then time their strokes and monitor their daily progress - although be warned that the toothbrush is not electric, so you still have to do the manual brushing yourself. The makers said: 'Today, the average person brushes their teeth for only 46 seconds, but is 50 per cent more likely to brush their teeth for a full two minutes by using just a simple timer. 'Oral care is considered patient-centered, since oral health is impacted significantly by your daily hygiene habits. 'Data from the Beam Brush is designed to raise awareness for your oral care.'

Don't forget your smartphone! The brush will automatically tell your Android or Apple phone how you are doing.   The app can be set for different people as well as give you targets to reach.  'Nothing about how you brush your teeth changes at all, but what we can do while you’re brushing your teeth does change.'

The brush reacts to the body's own bio-electricity when it is placed in the mouth, starting the timer.  The data is then sent to the user's phone, automatically updating the log and measuring their progress against 'brushing goals'. Then parents - or potentially dentists - can monitor the results, and help keep you on target with the brushing. The brush, which is taking pre-orders now, will be available in November for $50 - with a current pre-order discount of $34. The app - which will be available separately for users who just wish to use it as a timer - is due to be released for both Android and Apple devices in the coming weeks.
