Do you wear spectacles ! -

Do you wear Spectacles? -  you would understand certain inconveniences – for example, when you stand in a crowded bus !, when you play or run, when it drizzles and you are either walking or driving a two-wheeler !!

The first part of the book   considers the obstacles to real wisdom and truth, classifying the causes of error (offendicula) into four categories: following a weak or unreliable authority, custom, the ignorance of others, and concealing one's own ignorance by pretended knowledge.

The Opus Majus ("Greater Work") is the most important work of Roger Bacon. It was written in Medieval Latin in 1267.  The 878-page treatise ranges over all aspects of natural science, from grammar and logic to mathematics, physics, and philosophy. He also wrote  Opus Minus, which was intended as an abstract or summary of the longer work, followed shortly by a third work, Opus Tertium, as a preliminary introduction to the other two.

Ophthalmology  is a surgical subspecialty within medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. An ophthalmologist is a physician who specializes  in medical and surgical eye care.  Eye-glasses, spectacles -   are vision eyewear, with lenses (clear or tinted) mounted in a frame that holds them in front of a person's eyes, typically utilizing a bridge over the nose and hinged arms (known as temples or temple pieces) that rest over the ears. Glasses are typically used for vision correction, such as with reading glasses and glasses used for nearsightedness; however, without the specialized lenses, they are sometimes used for cosmetic purposes. Safety glasses provide eye protection against flying debris for construction workers or lab technicians; these glasses may have protection for the sides of the eyes as well as in the lenses.

Although many sources state that eyeglasses were invented in 1317, the idea for glasses may have started as early as 1000 B.C. Some sources also claim that Benjamin Franklin invented glasses, and while he did invent bifocals, this famous inventor cannot be credited with creating glasses in general. In a world where 60% of the population needs some form of corrective lenses to see clearly, it’s hard to picture a time when eyeglasses weren’t around.

By some accounts the use of lenses for optical purposes was made in 1268 by Roger Bacon.   Roger Bacon   also known by the scholastic accolade Doctor Mirabilis, was a medieval English philosopher and Franciscan friar who placed considerable emphasis on the study of nature through empiricism. In the early modern era, he was regarded as a wizard and particularly famed for the story of his mechanical or necromantic brazen head. Bacon applied the empirical method   to observations in texts attributed to Aristotle.  His linguistic work has been heralded for its early exposition of a universal grammar.  Bacon's major work, the Opus Majus, was sent to Pope Clement IV in Rome in 1267.

By some other accounts, the first eyeglasses were estimated to have been made in central Italy, most likely in Pisa, by about 1290: In a sermon delivered on 23 February 1306, the Dominican friar Giordano da Pisa wrote "It is not yet twenty years since there was found the art of making eyeglasses, which make for good vision ... And it is so short a time that this new art, never before extant, was discovered. Salvino D'Armato degli Armati of Florence is sometimes credited with the invention of eyeglasses in the 13th century.

Who really thinks of the inventor ! – if you are able to read this well – thank God for the power of the eyes and your literacy and see this photo, the same one at the start with colour enhancements.
