State level award for Mrs Jayanthi Narayanan for her exceptional commitment

In this beautiful world, there are beautiful people – and if your senses are open, perhaps one could sight one such person closer by ! .. .. Triplicane has many. .. .. wonder who this is ?

அரிது, அரிது மானிடராய் பிறத்தல் அரிது. அதனினும் அரிது, .. .. ..

For obvious reasons not repeating the words of tamil poet Avvaiyar which literally mean that ‘it is difficult to get born as a human being; it is still more difficult .. .. .. this is not to write about disabilities but  more about some who fight odds to ensure that difficulties are alleviated for the sufferers!.  .. .. we talk about education and literacy.  Simply – literacy is the ability to read and write which begins with comprehension and would include many things such as listening, speaking, communicating and more.  Sadly, there are some children  born with disabilities; sometimes   even a profound hearing loss.

Covid 19 impacted life in very many ways.  In a recent conversation, one HM of a leading school confided that ‘with Corona keeping students for so many months, many a students have lost the reading habit’ and would find it too difficult to cope up with the studies, with schools having reopened. .. .. during those stressful times, a person known to many of us – launched her videos (not the tiktok types that so many are spending time!)- with tips on how to keep special children busy and how they can educate themselves with the innovative videos.  This novel attempt was not backed by Organisational infrastructure but efforts of an untiring individual bent on connecting with her students.

Disability inclusion is an essential condition to upholding human rights, sustainable development, and peace and security. It is also central to the promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to leave no one behind.  There are so many days and 3rd Dec 2021 is about to be observed as “the International Day of Persons with disabilities”.  Established by the United Nations in 1992, the goal of the International Day of Persons With Disabilities is to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society.  The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is amplifying the observance with a week-long program from November 25 through December 3. The program's theme and focus include building a "sustainable post-COVID-19 world by and for persons with disabilities."

Triplicanites would know her well and we are proud that Mrs Jayanthi Narayanan is very active in TAMBRAAS Triplicane Unit and other social fields.  Mrs Jayanthi Narayanan has been silently rendering exceptional service to society. While there would be people proficient with multilingual skills, communication skills in the form of Braille, tactile and visual sign language may not even be known. Close of 4 decades, She has been passionately involved in teaching intellectually challenged children, deaf-blind and multiple handicapped. With care and concern, she has been counselling parents of children with special needs, supervise and train teachers in these tough areas.

Back in 2017, SYMA proudly presented her ‘SYMA Seva Award’ for her exceptional contributions in the field of teaching and service to such special children and service to society at large.  The award was conferred by the Chief Guest Shri. T. S. KrishnaMurthy,  who held the office of the Chief Election Commissioner overseeing the Lok Sabha elections in 2004.   Mrs Jayanthi holds a masters in Counselling psychology and has many degrees.  She has rich experience of 16 years in the field of intellectually challenged &  21 yrs  educating deafblind and multiple disability... having started with Clarkes school for the deaf, she has to her credit courses and practical experience in handling children with hearing impairment, intellectual lyrics challenged, deafblindness and more.

Hearty wishes and congratulations to Mrs Jayanthi Narayanan being conferred with  *Best Teacher Award for Children with special needs* by the Tamil Nadu State Government.   So on 3rd Dec 2021, when she walks on the podium to receive the award – Triplicane will feel proud in a very responsible citizen of their locality  getting befitting recognition.  Awards are nothing new to her, she has been recognized by various Forums, this State level award would add more to her accomplishment.  Pray our Emperuman for good health and continued well-being of such ‘nice special people’ – wishing you all happiness Mrs Jayanthi Narayanan.

Before concluding a web search revealed that US teacher Keishia Thorpe, who has opened up college education for low-income, first-generation American, immigrant and refugee students, has been named the winner of the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize 2021, in partnership with UNESCO. She had been selected from over 8,000 nominations and applications for the Global Teacher Prize from 121 countries around the world.  Now in its seventh year, the $1 million award is the largest prize of its kind.  It is not movie stars, not IPL stars who should be getting millions, but people who serve the society with a smile.

With regards – S. Sampathkumar
