SYMA EDUCATION AID 2010 - AN APPEAL

Over the years, I have been circulating to you all, activities of "Srinivas Youngmens Association" fondly known as SYMA. To some SYMA may not require any lengthy introduction, for We, at SYMA remember the patronage that you made last year also towards Educational Aid. To those of you new - established in 1977, SYMA has been carrying out social welfare activities in a small but meaningful way over the past 3 decades. We are fortunate enough to have dedicated volunteers and empathetic patrons. As you know, BLISS is the newsletter of SYMA and yours truly has been the editor ever since inception.


From a modest beginning to whatever we are today, we owe everything to the patrons / philanthropists who have motivated, guided & helped us in rendering service. We are today here, only because of support and motivation of people, who have all helped and steered us towards this direction.


This Year we wish to focus our activities on :
1) Medical Centre and Laboratory run for the poor wherein free consultation and medicines are provided at a measly Rs.2/- per visit. About 50 patients benefit here every day. The Laboratory where very nominal fees are charged is gaining momentum with close to 200 patients every month.
2) In our unsaturated desire towards raising the quality of education to underprivileged children, we launched our own tuition centre 'SYMA - Growth'. The two years of toddling has taught us many lessons. We aim to improve and provide quality personalised attendance to children appearing for public examinations. The results have been extremely good. This year we have had 100% success in +2 examinations with 6 students getting more than 1000/1200. In fact the topper got 1131/1200. The enrollment for the ensuing year is already on.


Apart from Cleaning Campaigns, Eye Camps, Blood Camps, Health camps and other social activities, we also conduct Child Fest every year to inculcate in school children competitive spirit and discipline.


One of our prestigious projects is Educational Aid Programme through which we have been providing uniform to poor students. The requirement has been increasing every year. It is a hard truth that there are many school children who manage with just one set of uniform throughout the year, that too hard to come by. We strongly believe that we can make some difference to the way these unfortunate children attend their school. This year we plan to provide Uniforms to 1200 students for which we have evolved systems to ensure that the benefits reach properly. We have also been providing Educational aid albeit in a small way to around 25 students taking care of the education expenses thus helping them pursue their career ambitions with ease.


Applications were distributed on 6th June and the function is proposed to be held on 4th July 2010. Every year in the Function, we distribute uniforms, honour the school toppers of all schools in Triplicane (there by rewarding them and encouraging other children to emulate them) and provide Financial assistance to College students. We also honour and present 'SYMA Sewa award' to some, recognising those who make meaningful contribution to the Society.


For doing all these, We are constantly on the look out for sponsors. We look forward to your participation in any measure. It is too well known that most of you are involved in social work & have been making donations (many in a much larger scale). Still we look forward to you for some little contribution that can really make a difference to the society at large. No amount is small - Cheques can be drawn in the name of "SRINIVAS YOUNGMENS ASSOCIATION" payable at Chennai. We will continue to strive for a better and improved society.
