Non-believers attempt to usurp religion - China attempts to control Dalai Lama

An existential crisis may occur when a person frequently wonders whether or not life has any inherent meaning or purpose. A person may also question their own existence within a world that might seem meaningless.  This is a different kind of ‘Existential Crisis’.  In Tamil Nadu, Temple are under the crutches of Govt and are administered by non-believers who use temple funds for all political reasons.  Sad state of affairs – more so with some parties even making election manifesto that they will usurp temple lands and distribute !  - whose land, why were they given, by whom, what was the purpose and how can such things happen !!

In the Himalayas, a young monk, about to be crowned the Rinpoche of the monastery, is kidnapped by a gang of black magicians who wish to make a human sacrifice of Rinpoche to attain invincibility. The young Rinpoche manages to escape from the clutches of the magicians and runs away to Kathmandu. At the other end of the subcontinent, in a small village in Kerala, Ashokan (Mohanlal) is an unemployed youth of no great virtues ends up guarding …..  that was ‘Yodha’ – Malayalam movie of 1992 scripted by Sasidharan Arattuvazhi and directed by Sangeeth Sivan, starring Mohanlal in the lead.

Dalai Lamas are worshipped  by Tibetan Buddhists to be manifestations of Avalokiteshvara or Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and the patron saint of Tibet. Bodhisattvas are realized beings, inspired by the wish to attain complete enlightenment, who have vowed to be reborn in the world to help all living beings.  The current head is the 14th Dalai Lama - (Tenzin Gyatso, shortened from Jetsun Jamphel Ngawang Lobsang Yeshe Tenzin Gyatso).  He was born in Taktser village, Amdo, Tibet (currently administratively in Qinghai province, Republic of China), and was selected as the tulku of the 13th  Dalai Lama in 1937 and formally recognized as the 14th  Dalai Lama at a public declaration near the town of Bumchen in 1939.

Dalai Lama, His holiness is a world leader that is committed to promoting positive values such as, forgiveness, self-discipline, tolerance, compassion and contentment. He is a spiritual leader like no other and is highlighting the importance of happiness and world peace every minute of the day.   Millions of people turn to the Dalai Lama for inspiration.  He and his people have struggled all their lives with the audacity of hopelessness. Oppression and exile are their daily bread. Yet the Dalai Lama,  remains calm in the face of cruelty.   From 1642 until 1705, and from 1750 to the 1950s, the Dalai Lamas or their regents headed the Tibetan government (or Ganden Phodrang) in Lhasa which governed all or most of the Tibetan plateau with varying degrees of autonomy under the Qing Dynasty of China, up to complete sovereignty.   Tibet's sovereignty was later rejected, however, by both the Republic of China and the current People's Republic of China.

Now there is more controversy – dismissing China’s claim of appointing the next Dalai Lama, the President of the Tibetan Government in Exile has said that its Tibetans who have "copyright" over reincarnation, and Beijing plans to have a "duplicate" copy.

Lobsang Sangay, Sikyong (President) of the Central Tibetan Administration (Tibetan Government in Exile), said, "Communist Party of China has zero credibility, as far as reincarnation is concerned. The Communist Party believes in atheism. They say religion is poison, why do they want to interfere in our internal affairs." Responding to a question from Zee News in an event, Sangay who is the political successor to Dalai Lama, explained, "for almost thousand years, we the Tibetans have selected our own reincarnate lamas, including the Dalai Lamas. So, we have the patent and copyright over reincarnation. So, we are the original and the Chinese will have a duplicate. Original original hota hai, duplicate, duplicate."

China, which is possibly keen to increase its influence on Buddhism, has said that it will appoint the next Dalai Lama, the 15th in the line of succession. The current Dalai Lama is the 14th one and had to leave Tibet in 1959 after the region was occupied by China and has been living in exile ever since, though he is Internationally reputed and reverred.

Asked if China could do a repetition of Galwan or Doklam incident, he said, "very likely, 60 years ago after they occupied Tibet, they said, once we occupy Tibet as the palm, they will come after 5 fingers right. What you saw in Doklam, is one of the 5 fingers. What you saw in Galwan is one of the 5 fingers, these kinds of incursions will continue ultimately Chinese govt policy is expansionist. These kinds of incidents will keep happening."  The 2020 Galwan incident saw the death of 20 Indian soldiers at the Line of Control in Eastern Ladakh due to aggressive Chinese actions. The 2017 Doklam incident saw China trying to occupied Bhutanese territories, which was stopped by the Indian forces.

The United States recently said that the Chinese government shouldn't interfere in the succession process of Tibet's spiritual leader Dalai Lama and as it is an "outrageous abuse of religious freedom".  Replying to a question on Joe Biden's position on the issue of Dalai Lama's reincarnation, US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price said "We believe that the Chinese Government should have no role in the succession process of the Dalai Lama".

Why should Communist China (who are atheists) try and control a religion and how can they select its leader ? – the same Q is very much relevant here too.

Goodness, Gracious ~ Anand Mahindra, we bow !!

To the Communists and to many here Capitalism is taboo – often they would quote ‘Ambani & Adani’ . .. .. this post is about the greatness and goodness of a great Corporate and its Head – Salute you Sir, in Nation Building, being inspirational and ‘changing lives of common people’ – Hats Off to you !

Responding to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari's announcement on twitter about the opening of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway on April 1, Anand Mahindra responded to the minister's tweet saying that these highways will not just add percentage points to our GDP growth but also knit India together.

''2.5 hours to 45 minutes?? I remember doing this trip as a kid. Just a small dusty road then. Tells me how much transportation inefficiency we’ve been enduring so far. These highways will not just add percentage points to our GDP growth but also knit India together. Bravo!'' - tweeted Mahindra.  Mahindra Group, is an Indian multinational conglomerate company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It has operations in over 100 countries around the globe. The group has a presence in aerospace, agribusiness, aftermarket, automotive, components, construction equipment, defence, energy, farm equipment, finance and insurance, industrial equipment, information technology, leisure and hospitality, logistics, real estate, retail, education and two wheelers. It is one of the most reputable Indian industrial houses with market leadership in utility vehicles  as well as tractors in India.

The 96 km-long 14-lane expressway will reduce travel time between Meerut and Delhi to 45 minutes. The project has been constructed at a cost of Rs.8,346 crore in the state of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. This expressway is being developed as a Smart Expressway in which road users will not only get the full information on climate, traffic and other related details of the expressway but also get the information of accidents (if any) at different locations.

Most of you would have viewed these pictures and read tweets too :  Indian cricketers T Natarajan and Shardul Thakur took to social media on Thursday to share pictures of his new Mahindra Thar SUV, gifted to him by the Chairman of the Mahindra Group. Anand Mahindra in January, impressed by the performance of six cricketers-- Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Shubman Gill, T Natarajan, Navdeep Saini and Washington Sundar— in the noted India-Australia series match, announced that he would gift them Mahindra Thars.

T Natarajan posted pictures of him with his new car, and thanked Anand Mahindra for the promised gift. “Playing cricket for India is the biggest privilege of my life. My #Rise  has been on an unusual path. Along the way, the love and affection, I have received has overwhelmed me. The support and encouragement from wonderful people, helps me find ways to #ExploreTheImpossible,” he said.T Natarajan posted pictures of him with his new Mahindra Thar.  To return the favour, the cricketer sent Mahindra his signed Gabba Test series jersey. “As I drive the beautiful @Mahindra_Thar home today, I feel immense gratitude towards Shri @anandmahindra for recognising my journey & for his appreciation. I trust sir, that given your love for cricket, you will find this signed shirt of mine from the #Gabba Test, meaningful,” Natarajan tweeted. Mahindra replied to the tweet saying that he will “treasure the jersey and wear it with pride.”

Just in case, you still wonder who – “Anand Gopal Mahindra”  (born 1 May 1955) is an Indian billionaire businessman, and the chairman of Mahindra Group, a Mumbai-based business conglomerate.  Anand  Mahindra is the grandson of Jagdish Chandra Mahindra, co-founder of Mahindra & Mahindra. As of January 2020, his net worth is estimated to be $1.6 billion.  He is an alumnus of Harvard University and Harvard Business School.  In 1996, he established Nanhi Kali, a non-government organisation that supports education for underprivileged girls in India. He was  included by Fortune Magazine among the 'World's 50 Greatest Leaders' and was in the magazine's 2011 listing of Asia's 25 most powerful businesspeople.  Anand was noted by Forbes (India) as their 'Entrepreneur of the Year' for 2013. He was given the Padma Bhushan Award, the third Highest civilian award in India, in January 2020.

There is more one must read and share :  In this virus season Mahindra group provided free & low cost ventilators for many hospitals  .. .. this one is just overwhelming.

Almost two years after a Tamil Nadu woman won over the internet for serving idlis at low cost for daily wage workers, Anand Mahindra fulfilled his promise to support and “invest” in her venture. The business tycoon recently shared the delightful news that the octogenarian would soon have a house of her own, which would also function as her new food joint. Kamalathal from Coimbatore went viral as ‘Idli Amma’ in 2019 for cooking and selling idlis for just Re 1. For over 30 years, she has been running her business from a tiny shanty shop. However, she wasn’t concerned about making profits and extended her services keeping in mind those in need.

Her thoughtful gesture had moved the Chairman of Mahindra Group at the time, he first provided her LPG connection and after   knowing that her priority was a new home cum workspace, Mahindra’s companies rallied their forces by helping register land in her name. “Only rarely does one get to play a small part in someone’s inspiring story, and I would like to thank Kamalathal, better known as Idli Amma, for letting us play a small part in hers,” Mahindra wrote online while making the announcement.

Anand Mahindra is a true inspiration – here is a pic posted in twitter of Team Mahindra at Registration Office at Thondamuthur, Coimbatore – registering land in the name of Idli amma – Kamalathal. We bow our heads to you acknowledging your great gesture Sir – Hats off Anand Mahindra Sir. .. .. really gracious !

Superstar Rajnikanth gets Dadasaheb Phalke award .. ..

Rajnikanth, the man is in news ! ~ everyone is talking about .. being conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke Award – there are news, views, criticism and more – with reams getting written on this – in some way even pushing Elections to a side !

~ was a very popular song set to the music of Chandrabose.  Raja Chinna Roja directed by S. P. Muthuraman, produced by M. Saravanan and M. Balasubramaniam of AVM Productions was a Rajni hit of 1989. The plot revolves around Raja (Rajinikanth), who arrives in the city to become an actor. In the process he meets his childhood friend and is forced to take care of his nieces and nephews.  The film was commercially successful, and had a 175-day theatrical run.

Rajnikant starrer ‘Baba’  bombed at box office, actually it was good and I enjoyed seeing the movie.  His rise in the film would occur with the temple elephant placing the garland on the neck of unassuming Baba and the song ‘sakthi kodu’ was shot in and around the famous Kalikambal temple. Is the conferment of the award similar – are there political motives behind the award  .. .. Q can galore !

Before you proceed few Qs ?

·         Everyone of us buy agarbathies ~ this is also trademarked.  Before that a Q on a Rajnikant film… - Padayappa, was directed by KS Ravikumar; starred Soundarya & Ramya Krishnan with Rajini;  was the last film for Sivaji Ganesan. (Looks like all possible Questions over ?)…….. here is the Q :   - The producer Thenappan registered the ‘stylised Padayappa design’  as a Class 34 trademark in 1998 for some goods, making it to be first instance of brand extention in Tamil film industry ?  Can you tell what the brands were ?

·         Ever heard of a Dadasaheb Phalke award winner Paidi Jairaj – wiki describes him as rising from being a body-double !!

·         Can you identify who this highest paid actress of her time – Ruby Myers (her stage name and her ancestry !)

Introduced in 1969, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest award given to recognise the contributions of film personalities towards the development of Indian cinema and for distinguished contributions to the medium, its growth and promotion." A committee consisting five eminent personalities from Indian film industry was appointed to evaluate the lifetime achievement award, Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The jurors were : Asha Bhosle, Subhash Ghai, Mohanlal,  Shankar Mahadevan &  Biswajit Chatterjee (without doubt all acclaimed in tinseldom)

The award was instituted to honour the doyen of Indian Cinema, Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, the National Film Awards named the most prestigious and coveted award of Indian Cinema after him. He is the man who made the first Indian Feature film Raja Harishchandra in 1913. Popularly known as Dadasaheb Phalke, he then went on to make 95 films and 26 short films in a span of 19 years. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was introduced in 1969 by the government to recognise the contribution of film personalities towards the development of Indian Cinema. The first recipient of this award was Devika Rani. Dadasaheb Phalke Award is given to a film personality for his/her outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema. The award comprises of a Swarna Kamal, a cash Prize of Rs. 10,00,000/- (Rupees Ten Lakhs)certificate, silk scroll and a shawl.

The Centre on Thursday announced the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for Rajinikanth for his contribution as an actor, producer and screenwriter. Announcing the decision in New Delhi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said, “For the past 50 years, Rajinikanth has been ruling the film industry. His work is like the sun. Through his talent and hard work, he has made a space for himself in the hearts of millions of people.” The award will be presented to Rajinikanth on May 3.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is presented annually at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.  The first recipient of the award was actress Devika Rani, who was honoured at the 17th National Film Awards. As of 2021, there have been 51 awardees. Among those, actor Prithviraj Kapoor (1971) and actor Vinod Khanna (2017) were the  posthumous recipients.

Remember reading about this award when it was presented to LV  Prasad in 1982. Akkineni Lakshmi Vara Prasada Rao  was an eminent film producer, actor, director, cinematographer and businessman.  He founded Prasads Group in 1956, which include the Prasad Art Pictures, Prasad Studios, Prasads IMAX and L V Prasad Eye Institute.  Government of India released a Commemorative postage stamp in his memory in 2006. Prasad also had the unique distinction of acting in the first talkies of three different languages of Indian cinema; Alam Ara (Hindi), Bhakta Prahlada (Telugu) and Kalidas (a Telugu and Tamil bilingual movie).

In 1996, the award was conferred on Sivaji Ganesan described as an actor par excellence who acted in more than 300 films and was known for his expressions.  In 2010, film maker K Balachander was presented with this award.  Now the award for 2019 has been given to the man who debuted in  Apoorva Raagangal (1975),  fondly referred to as superstar.   He has acted in more than 160 films – in general, his films provide good entertainment, with his stunt and style loved by one and all.  He has portrayed dual roles in some and a comedy film Thillu Mullu; a triple role in Moondru Mugam.  For his 100th film he chose to act as Swami Raghavendrar (of whom he is a gret bakth and at that time not exactly suited for that fole).  He did one English movie too – Bloodstone !

Congratulations and wishes to Superstar Rajnikanth on being conferred prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award.

tear away speedster .... Darcie Brown debuts !!

The ICC cricket committee has made changes to the way lbws will be adjudged under the Decision Review System, effectively increasing the area of the stumps a ball must be shown as hitting for a not out decision to be overturned. This "wicket zone" will now be extended all the way to the top of the bails, having previously gone only to the bottom of the bails, which is why deliveries just clipping the bails ended up staying with the umpire's call on the field. By DRS protocol, If more than half the ball is predicted to hit this region, an on-field call of not-out is reversed. This is the second time the ICC has adjusted its definition of the "wicket zone" for lbws. In 2016, they had increased the wicket zone by expanding its width, so that half the ball had to hit any part of the off- or leg-stumps, rather than having to hit at least half of each stump previously.

Less than a year out of the 2022 Women's ODI World Cup in New Zealand, the ICC has announced that all tied matches will be decided by a Super Over. In another change to the playing conditions, the five-over powerplay that was previously taken at the discretion of either batters in the middle has been scrapped.

Down under, Australia and New Zealand shared the spoils in the T20I series after rain forced the decider at Eden Park to be abandoned with less than three overs bowled. The contest had been reduced to 13 overs per side after a delayed start but shortly after the game began the rain returned and though the umpires did their best to keep the match going it became too heavy and did not relent. New Zealand levelled the T20 series with a four wicket victory in game two in Napier.

Allrounder Mackay wasn't expecting to play after she suffered a calf injury in the first game, but she got a last minute call-up and made the most of it. Playing without a sick captain Sophie Devine, McKay was the star as she picked up two wickets for 20 runs from her four overs as Australia made 129 for four. Opening the innings the Cantabrian then scored 46 as New Zealand scored the winning runs off the last ball. The White Ferns produced one of their best bowling and fielding performances of the summer to record just their second win over Australia in recent years.

In that 2nd T20I at  Napier on  Mar 30 2021,  NZ women won by 4 wickets chasing a target of 130. Without their captain, with another player barely able to move and a chase having seemingly slipped away, New Zealand levelled the T20I series in the second game in Napier when a final-ball bottom edge from Maddy Green reached the boundary to set up a decider in Auckland. .. .. the finals turned out to be a dampsquib.

Tearaway quick Darcie Brown made her international debut at Napier. Megan Schutt presented fellow South Australian Brown with Australia T20I cap No.54 ahead of the toss, which was won by stand-in White Ferns skipper Amy Satterthwaite who elected to bowl first.  A pace race among Australian fast bowlers could push teenage speedster Darcie Brown to get “a bit quicker” as speed becomes the weapon of choice for next year’s World Cup. The 18-year-old from South Australia made her debut, and took her first international wicket, in Tuesday’s thrilling T20 loss to New Zealand in Napier. Brown played instead of fellow quick Tayla Vlaeminck on Tuesday, but coach Matthew Mott has signalled his desire to use pace as Australia’s weapon, and the duo could yet turn out together.

The pair are the only members of the Australian squad (and among the few in the world) currently capable of breaching the 120 km/h mark and are spurring each other on to get faster. “I‘m just happy to watch Tayla but to be able to bowl with her in a game would be pretty cool,” Brown said on Wednesday.

Interesting !
