Jewels of Triplicane – SYMA Sadagopan  !!

 

In this beautiful world, there are beautiful people – and if your senses are open, perhaps one could sight one such person closer by ! .. .. Triplicane has many. .. ..  likely-  you know this short statured slightly dark complexioned, strong voiced person !  - and after reading this, for sure would love him more !!   

மகன்  தந்தைக்கு ஆற்றும் உதவி இவன் தந்தை

என்நோற்றான் கொல்எனும்  சொல்  !!  (Thiruvalluvar’s immortal words)

Thiruvallikkeni aka Triplicane is a famed land…   It is a place where religion, nationalistic fervour, patriotism, sports, education and the individual dignity have interspersed for the benefit of the State and the larger interests of the Nation. Triplicane was the seat of freedom struggle.  There are many houses which have a rich history behind them.     

This place in singara Chennai that has a much longer history than Madras itself,  has produced many eminent Lawyers, great Doctors, Teachers and more importantly very responsible citizens.  ………. in this famed land, as you walk on the road, you might brush with very ordinary looking people, whom you may not cast your look for a second time…..but looks are deceptive – they could well be a great person contributing immensely to the Society ….  .. this post is on one such HERO 

Every year SYMA  in their Educational Aid function,  provide uniforms to around 1500 school students, honour the school toppers of Triplicane, give financial award to select College students and present SYMA Seva award.   As a Social Service Organisation, we deem it our duty to identify and honour those individuals who had rendered great service to the society.   This year there were two – this post is one of them, there would be a separate post on the other. 

2020 was different – the dreaded Corona virus Covid 19 threatened humanity, killing thousands and affecting millions.  People were confined to home and lived in constant fear.   At that juncture, not many ventured to come out and help others.  Having seen near and dear suffer, there was continuous fear in the minds of the people and suddenly many were living in isolation – in troubled times, there was none to help literally !!!    

Sri  Meiyur Adhi Sadagopan    exhibited exemplary spirit of service, during dreaded Covid times and helped so many people living in Triplicane and around – calling on them, attending to them, and helping them out in coming out of their illness, stress and anxiety.  When people were confined to their houses, in fear of dreaded Corona, MAS was serving people with smile.   Covid  is gone, even these days  whenever there is some personal distress in a family, Triplicanites look to MAS for help and he whole-heartedly tenders to them – full and complete service.

 

MAS is  51 now.  He has been conducting health camps, has donated blood more than 100 times and has been donating platelets regularly.  He is passionate about conducting camps for school children.    Through his School group, he provides financial help to students too. At a personal level too, he goes beyond his means to help people in distress especially in the field of education.    Being an Insurance Agent, he guides people on the need for taking health insurance coverage, helps in insuring vehicles, property and more importantly health – he is readily available to service, follow-up and get medical insurance claims even on policies not sold by him.  

His attitude to service is infectious and he does service with big smile, without ever talking of what he does !  - he prefers to be in the background and generally avoids any flash be it from a camera or from pen !!   

It heartening  that SYMA considered him    an Extraordinary Role Model  and bestowed on him   “SYMA SEVA AWARD 2023” in recognition  of his outstanding contributions in the field of  service to the students and society at large.  

We pray Lord Srinivasa to bestow on him and his  family ,  long life, good health  and  vigour  to enable continued rendering  of service to the society for very many years to come. 

நம் வாழ்க்கை நெறிக்கு அற்புத திருக்குறள் தந்த செந்நாப்போதார் - மக்கட்பேறு அதிகாரத்தில் கூறியுள்ள  ஓர் அற்புத குரள் ஆரம்பத்தில் கண்டீர்கள்.  "சான்றோன் ஆக்குதல் தந்தை கடனே" என்று புறநானூற்றில் கூறப்பட்டு உள்ளது. அதற்கு ஏற்ப ஒரு தந்தை  தன் மகனை சான்றோன் ஆக்க மிகவும் கடினப்பட்டு பலவற்றை கற்றுத்தருகிறார்.  தன்னைக் கல்வி அறிவு உடையவனாய் ஆளாக்கிய தந்தைக்கு மகன் செய்யும் கைம்மாறு, பிள்ளையின் ஒழுக்கத்தையும் அறிவையும் கண்டவர், இப்பிள்ளையைப் பெறுவதற்கு இவன் தகப்பன் என்ன தவம் செய்தானோ என்று சொல்லும் சொல்லைப் பெற்றுத் தருவதே  !!  சடகோபன் தன் தந்தையை பெருமிதம் அடையச் செய்தான்.

Just incase  people had not noticed – our friend MAS – on the day we went for inviting him, made his father receive the Invitation.  Later ensured that his father and his family were on stage when award was given .. .. …  and immediately upon getting down from the stage – placed the medallion around the neck of his father,  Sri Gopalakrishnamachar,   bowing to him – what a gesture – MAS – you really stand tall.
