Those who have an
illustrious career and have risen up to greater heights have worked very hard
and have done more sacrifices than most other ordinary people. In any field success is never guaranteed,
though a small % could be too lucky to have greatness thrust on them. I am no great fan of Cinema industry and have
always felt that actor and actress are celebrated much higher than what they
deserve in the society – yet I read this news with lot of sadness !
Alcetas, was
the brother of Perdiccas and the son of Orontes from Orestis. He is first
mentioned as one of Alexander the Great's generals in his Indian expedition. Marcus
Antonius was a Roman politician and
general who played a critical role in the transformation of the Roman Republic
from an oligarchy into the autocratic Roman Empire.
Annakili is more known to us for its music debut of
great Illayaraja – the film was directed
by Devaraj Mohan. The film revolves
around Annakili, who falls in love with teacher Thyagarajan. Due to
circumstances, Thyagarajan marries another girl. Azhagappan, a womaniser
creates a misunderstanding about Annakili among the villagers; the rest of the
film shows how Annakili proves her innocence.
‘White
Wilderness’ was a Walt Disney produced nature documentary that
came in 1958. The film was directed by
James Algar and narrated by Winston Hibler.
It contained a scene that
supposedly depicted a mass lemming migration ending with the lemmings leaping
into the Arctic Ocean. Animal suicide
is a hugely controversial issue in the world of animal research and psychology,
because although there are numerous documented instances of animals seemingly
intentionally ending their own lives, no one is exactly sure whether these
cases can technically be classified as suicide.
In Dec 2012 at the peak of
Carnatic music season tragedy befell on one of the famous singers –in a sad
development husband of the popular Carnatic vocalist, committed suicide by
jumping into the Adyar river from the Kotturpuram bridge- it was mid day and
reportedly some people saw the car stop, a man coming out and jumping into the
river. .. .. and there were some talks
on raising the height of parapet walls
of these facilities, as he was not alone.
We read of
so many deaths and bad incidents that slowly makes the mind so hard that people
do not care or sympathise… in some ways
it was shocking to read of the suicide of this 34 year actor !
Life could difficult and
full of impediments but still you have a choice. Every minute, every breath provides everyone
with a choice to be or not to be.
Suicide is never a solution.
Those who end their lives add commotion and trouble to most of their
beloved ~ and if some claim to be solitary, they do not obtain the proper
solution. Many do not realize that crisis
is temporary, they often perceive that their troubles are inescapable and feel
an utter loss of control. Suicide behaviors can accompany many emotional
disturbance, including depression, bipolar, disorder. A very high % of all
suicide is related to a mood disorder or other psychiatric illness. Suicide
behavior often occur in response to a situation that the persons views as
overwhelming, such as social isolation, death of a love one, emotional trauma,
serious physical illness, unemployment or financial problems, guilty feeling or
depends on other alcohol or other drug problem.
Contrary to popular belief
the incidence of suicide is high in poor – poverty or debt does not drive all
to death… there are many among the rich too who resort to suicide. Many people
die by suicide because depression is triggered by several negative life
experiences. There could be innumerable reasons that one could cite, still
there would be strong reason for them to continue to live the life in its
normal course.
I certainly was impressed
by the bio-pic ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’ and its release in 2016
catapulted the hero Sushant Singh Rajput to fame. The film chronicled the life of Dhoni from a young age through a
series of life events. The film released in Sept 2016 by Fox
Star Studios received the widest release
ever for a Bollywood film across 61 countries. In addition to being released in
Hindi language, it was also dubbed in Tamil, Telugu, and other languages. Upon release, the film became a critical and
commercial success. Sad the hero is no
more, putting an end to himself !
Sushant Singh Rajput (21
January 1986 – 14 June 2020) was a renowned actor, dancer, entrepreneur and
philanthropist. Rajput started his career with television serials. His debut
show was Star Plus's romantic drama Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil (2008),
followed by an award-winning performance in Zee TV's popular soap opera Pavitra
Rishta (2009–11). Rajput made his film debut in the buddy drama Kai Po Che! (2013),
for which he received a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. His highest-grossing releases came with a
supporting role in the satire PK (2014), followed by the titular role in the
sports biopic M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016). Rajput went on to star in
the commercially successful films Kedarnath (2018) and Chhichhore (2019).
Suicide (Latin
suicidium, from sui caedere, "to kill oneself") is the act of
intentionally causing one's own death. Suicide is often committed out of
despair, the cause of which can be attributed to a mental disorder such as
depression, bipolar disorder,schizophrenia, alcoholism, or drug abuse.
A few years
back, we had organized a talk session for the students of SYMA Growth – and the
Police Inspector of D3 Triplicane PS Mr R Dhalavoisamy made a powerful speech. It was simple and touched the nerves –
failures are not to be feared. Quoting
personal examples he urged the students that a failure in Public exam or
elsewhere would not push one out of the society. While most people would advise the gathering
on how to get top marks seeing it as the gateway of success, this Officer
neatly narrated that one should never get disheartened by the failures. I felt very impressed.
Section 306 in The Indian
Penal Code :306. Abetment of suicide.—If any person commits suicide, whoever
abets the commission of such suicide, shall be punished with imprisonment of
either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be
liable to fine.
Alcetas one of Alexander the Great's generals in his Indian
expedition killed himself in an act of avoiding imminent capture. When Antonius invaded
Egypt, with no other refuge to escape to, Mark Antony committed suicide by stabbing
himself with his sword in the mistaken belief that Cleopatra had already done
so. In the film Annakili, Jayalakshmi
did lead role. The actress whose screen
name was Fatafat Jayalakshmi committed suicide.
Sad to read of the passing
away of Sushant Rajput – suicide is never a solution but has often been
glorified, shown in different ways in Cinema !
Young ones should be taught to live daringly facing failures, for
everyone had failed somewhere in their attempts – the ones who have not,
perhaps never ventured out on anything.
