desirous of eating delicious laddu !!

Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya (would you like to eat Laddu?) [KLTA] starring Santhanam, was a good comedy revolving around three friends vying for the same girl. It was based on Bhagyaraj’s Indru Poi Naalai Vaa!

Laddu (laddoo) is a spherical sweet made from flour, ghee and sugar.  For attraction and taste, cashew nuts and dried raisins are added.   Laddus are served during festivals, marriages and religious occasions !! and . .. .. ___

Nation awaits the result to the Legislative Assembly of Punjab State - 117 members of the 16th Assembly. - votes will be counted and the results will be declared on 10 March 2022.   After months of canvassing, bickering and in-fighting, the moment of truth is set to come  for the people of Punjab. From political parties to the general public, all eyes will be on the results as it would show whether the exit polls were right or not. It should be noted that almost all major exit polls have predicted a landslide victory for the Aam Aadmi Party. If the March 7 forecasts actualise into reality, Punjab will see AAP’s Bhagwant Mann as its new Chief Minister.

Do you follow Politics and Indian Elections – the Amritsar East Assembly Constituency for Punjab Legislative Assembly was won by Cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu in 2017 representing Congress, the same seat was earlier held by Mrs   Navjot Kaur Sidhu,  representing Bharatiya Janata Party.  Amritsar North Assembly Constituency is now held by  Sunil Dutt, Indian National Congress.  In 1952 elections – Amritsar City North had an electorate of 50136 but polled votes were only 38.75% - Satya Pal of INC secured 11129 votes defeating Joginder Singh who got 4043 votes.

The gory massacre was to occur and make Baisakhi day April 13, 1919, a tragic day on that day, local residents in Amritsar decided to hold a meeting  to discuss and protest against the confinement of Satya Pal and Saifuddin Kitchlew, two leaders fighting for Independence (did we ever read about them in our school books ?). People were also protesting implementation of the Rowlatt Act, which armed the British government with powers to detain any person without trial. It was no violent crowd – it had a mix of men, women and children,  gathered in a park called the JallianwalaBagh, walled on all sides having  a few small gates.  It was to be a peaceful meeting of peasants and people and included pilgrims visiting the famous Golden temple.

The man  whose arrest sparked that violence – Satyapal, rejoined Indian Medical Service following outbreak of Second World War.    After Indian independence,  he contested Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections in  1952  at Amritsar City North constituency and won comfortably.

Sweet shops in Punjab are bracing for the election outcome, readying tonnes of laddoos and other sweets to cater to the demands of the political parties who are making preparations for celebrations on Thursday.A large number of candidates of various political parties have flooded the sweet shops with their orders for various kinds of ladoos.

A sweet shop in Ludhiana prepared 'Jeet ke laddoos' (ladoos of victory), weighing about five kilograms each approximately.Narinder Singh, president of Punjab's Halwai Association, said, "This year, we have received orders of laddoos in bulk to mark the victory of political parties in the recently held Assembly polls. We have deployed our trained staff members to prepare these special laddoos with care."Narinder's staff was busy making laddoos and packing them in decorative trays.

Who would be celebrating and eating delicious laddu, would be known by tomorrow !!!
