Celebrating Vinayaka Chathurthi 2019

Today 2^nd Sept 2019 is Vinayaka Chathurthi.

ஹிந்துக்களால் மிகவும் உற்சாகத்துடன் கொண்டாடப்படும் பண்டிகைகளில் முக்கியமானது விநாயகர் சதுர்த்தி. முழுமுதற்கடவுளும், ஈசனின் மகனுமான விநாயகர் அவதரித்த தினமான விநாயகர் சதுர்த்தி விழாவானது ஒவ்வொரு வருடமும் ஆவணி மாதத்தின் வளர்பிறை சதுர்த்தி நாள் அன்று கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.

                        மன்னர் சத்ரபதி சிவாஜியின் காலத்திலேயே விநாயகர் சதுர்த்தி விழா பிரபலமாகிவிட்டாலும் இன்று நாம் பார்க்கும் விநாயகர் விழா கொண்டாட்டங்கள் மற்றும் ஊர்வலங்களுக்கு பிள்ளையார் சுழி போட்டவர் இந்திய விடுதலை இயக்கத்தின் முதல் தலைவரான பால கங்காதர திலகர் தான். 1893ஆம் ஆண்டு 'சர்வஜன கணேஷ் உத்சவ்' என்ற பெயரில் இவர் ஆரம்பித்து வைத்த விநாயகர் சதுர்த்தி கொண்டாட்டங்களே இன்று லட்சக்கணக்கான மக்கள் பங்குகொள்ளும் மிகப்பெரிய விழாவாக மாறியுள்ளது.

In Maharashtra, Ganeshotsav also incorporates other festivals, namely Hartalika and the Gauri festival, the former is observed with a fast by women on the day before Ganesh Chaturthi whilst the latter by the installation of statues of Gauris. The 10-day festival is celebrated throughout India.  In  Mumbai,  the festival is celebrated in the grandest manner, with around 1, 50,000 immersed annually.

Historically it became a major social and public event after the sponsorship of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj following the Mughal-Maratha wars. The festival gained further prominence when it was publicly supported in the 19th century by the Indian freedom fighter, Lokmanya Tilak, who championed it as a means to evade colonial British government ban in Hindu gatherings through its anti-public assembly legislation in 1892.

This year, the Ganesh Utsava Committee in Khairtabad  has built a massive 61- feet high idol of Ganesha, which it claims is the tallest in the country. Singari Sudershan Mudiraj, chairman and founder of the committee told ANI here that Lord Ganesh is being depicted in his Dwadashi Aditya Maha Ganapati avatar in the idol which is supposed to give good climate and adequate rainfall as a blessing.
