Covid 19 toll ~ Mexico revises its official figures .. .. and Indian States see surge !

Covid 19 is not yet eliminated and the nos. are suddenly increasing .. .. yet, we find thousands of people loitering on road, following roadshows of political leaders and more  .. .. and there are lot of Sports activities too !!

Dust storms cause soil loss from the dry lands, and worse, they preferentially remove organic matter and the nutrient-rich lightest particles, thereby reducing agricultural productivity.  Dust storms are not limited to Earth and have been known to form on other planets such as Mars.  .. .. as we read along the natural phenomenon – in Brazil, it was created artificially (this was exactlyi an year ago !)  .. yes – A  police helicopter in Brazil created a sandstorm on a beach in an attempt to remove sunbathers flouting coronavirus restrictions. The incident took place on Galheta beach in the city of Florianopolis, Santa Catarina.  At that time  Brazil was not under a national lockdown, but the state of Santa Catarina was under emergency measures since 17 Mar 2020. At that time  Brazil had  recorded 46 deaths from the disease, with the total number of infections standing at 2,247 !!

On Saturday, Sachin Tendulkar announced on social media that he has tested positive for Covid-19. The former India batsman and captain added that his symptoms were mild, that no one else in his family had been affected and that he has gone into isolation. Then  Yusuf Pathan, who was Tendulkar's team-mate in that tournament, also posted on Twitter that he has tested positive and yesterday,  S Badrinath became the third player from the tournament to announce that he had test positive – they were part of Indian team (Indian Legends) in a tournament conducted by  Unacademy Road Safety World Series.

The situation is worsening and worrisome too -  a few checkposts in Kerala witnessed vehicles piling up on Friday as the bordering state of Karnataka made renewed efforts to strictly enforce the COVID-19 regulations at the border. As part of its latest measures in view of the surge in COVID-19 cases in both states, Karnataka did not allow road travellers from Kerala to enter the state without a negative COVID-19 test certificate.

India on Monday recorded 68,020 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total tally to 1,20,39,644, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. With 291 deaths in the last 24 hours, the overall death toll touched 1,61,843. There are 5,21,808 active coronavirus cases in the country while as many as 1,13,55,993 people have recovered from the disease. Maharashtra recorded 40,414 new cases on Sunday, yet another high for the state. Karnataka reported more than 3,000 cases for the first time since November 5.    Over the last three days, Maharashtra has recorded more than 1.13 lakh new infections !  Tamil Nadu recorded 2194 positive cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the state tally to 8,79,473. Among these, Chennai reported 833 positive cases, bringing the city’s total to 2,46,339.

Globally US has 30239625 cases and going by deaths caused by Covid 19 (2778310 globally) – USA is on top with 548377; Brazil 310550; Mexico 201429; India 161552; United Kingdom 126573; Ital;y 107636  but perhaps all is not well and real !!

Mexico's government acknowledged Saturday that the country's true death toll from the coronavirus pandemic now stands at 321,059, almost 60 per cent more than the official test-confirmed number of 201,429. !!  [how can that be !!] Mexico does little testing, and because hospitals were overwhelmed, many Mexicans died at home without getting a test. The only way to get a clear picture is to review 'excess deaths' and review death certificates. On Saturday, the government quietly published such a report, which found there were 294,287 deaths linked to COVID-19 from the start of the pandemic through February 14.  Since February 15 there have been an additional 26,772 test-confirmed deaths.

Mexico's government said Saturday that the country's true death toll from the pandemic now stands above 321,000, almost 60% more than the official test-confirmed number of 201,429.  The higher toll would rival that of Brazil, which currently has the world's second-highest number of deaths and .. ..    Mexico's population of 126 million is far smaller than Brazil's 211 million. Former President Felipe Calderón  wrote in his Twitter account Saturday that 'more than 400,000 Mexicans have died, above the average for previous years ... probably the highest figure in the world'.  But some experts say COVID-19 may have contributed to many of the other excess deaths because many people couldn't get treatment for other diseases because hospitals were overwhelmed.

Sad is the state of affairs and sadly it appears people are not caring for themselves!
