Sunday, 4th of  August, 2019 is a gold letter day in the annals of SYMA history.  We have been aspiring, dreaming for this ~ ‘dreaming big or a big dream’.

SYMA has an unsaturated desire for serving the Society. SYMA [Srinivas Youngmen’s Association]  has been in the field of Social service since 1977 starting with street cleaning campaigns and keeping environment, more specifically, the temple tank and its surroundings clean.   We at SYMA, feel strongly the primary responsibility of improving the Society and helping the underprivileged.  With a focus on sustainable service, we have two bigger continuing projects :

1) Medical Centre (started in the year 1989 in affiliation with Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Sankara Medical Trust) which serves  the poor providing free consultation and medicines at lowly  Rs 2/-  .  WE also have a medical analytical lab conducting various tests at very nominal rates (started in the year 2007)

2) SYMA Growth – a purposeful special tuition centre for coaching poor students of 10th and 12th standards.  Into its 12th year now, this was inaugurated in  2008 and producing good results year after year, changing the lives of poor children.

Both these projects are  fully  sponsored by Manpower Group this year (2019-20), to whom, we express our deep gratitude.  M/s Karix Mobiles have sponsored the Educational Aid programme and there are many philanthropists and corporate behind our success.

We have been dreaming of expanding ~ and the foremost impediment in realizing our endeavour was perhaps lack of space.  SYMA has been functioning in a 270 SFT approx premises at 29 TP Koil Street, (pictured here)   Opp to Bharathiyar  Illam.   On 4.8.2019 With the munificent support of Vasavi Builders, SYMA moved  to a sprawling premises at 37 Car Street, Triplicane, Chennai 600 005.  At an auspicious hour, the new building was opened and our services inaugurated by :

His Holiness Sri Sri Vadhikesari Azhagiya Manavala Jeeyar, Thirukachi

The guests of honour were:

Dr K Sridhar, Founder Trustee – SKKSM Trust; Director & Senior Consultant – Plastic Surgery, SIMS Hospital

Sri M Balasubramanyam, Director, Mangal Tirth Estate Ltd

The function started with prayer – ‘virperu vizhagum pasuram’ in praise of sthalathipathi Sri Parthasarathi Perumal rendered by Secretary S. Sampathkumar and Sri U Ve Manthrapushpam Bashyam Iyengar.   Yours Truly welcomed the guests, introduced them and compered the event.  President TA Sampathkumar spoke about the cherished ideals of SYMA in expanding to a full time Hospital as also running a quality School providing quality service to the poor.

His Holiness Sri Sri Vadhikesari Azhagiya Manavala Jeeyar swami inaugurated the building.  This mutt is a very important institution for our Sampradhayam,  established by Periya Jeeyar Koyil Selva Manavala Mamunigal Himself, and succeeded by His prashishya ‘Vadikesari Azhagiya Manavala Jeeyar’.  SYMA was very fortunate in Jeeyar Swami inaugurating the new premises.  The present pontiff, a scholar lived in Triplicane, knows SYMA and its office bearers well.  More so, our premises (@ 29 TP Koil Street) was functioning in the premises belonging to the Mutt.

It was Dr K Sridhar, renowned Plastic surgeon, Director SIMS Hospital, Founder Trustee of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Sankara Medical Trust who initiated SYMA into medical service, guiding and supporting us all through in our medical journey.  We were indeed blessed to have Dr K Sridhar in our midst.  We have had many rounds of discussions that has fine-tuned and shaped our medical centre.  The other guest is famous philanthropist Sri M Balasubramanyam, Director, Mangal Tirth Estates, the Company that shaped the famous Spencer Mall on Mount Road. He has supported SYMA in a big way and it was people like him who gave the ultimate courage to look out for a property for outright purchase or taking a bigger premise on lease or rent.  The guests were honoured – Jeeyar Swami by our VP Mr Kasthuri; Dr Sridhar by R Sanjeevi and Mr Bala by Sadagopan MA.

It was indeed a moment frozen in the history as hundreds of well-wishers, patrons and members of SYMA attended and heard the anugraha bashanam of Jeeyar swami and the speeches of others.  The inauguration was followed by free mega comprehensive health camp and free master health check-up – in association with Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Sankara Medical Trust & Medall Diagnostics. 100 persons benefitted in the medical camp.

Our Medical Centre and Lab have now  be moved to this new premises and will function from here.  SYMA Medical Centre functions between  5 – 7 pm on all days except Sundays and National holidays. Consultation is free and medicines too – provided through regular medical shops with whom we have working arrangement. Around 40 – 50 people utilize this daily. The  Medical lab wherein blood and other tests are done at very nominal costs functions in the morning.  Specialists provide specialized consultation on Wednesdays. . The running of Medical Centre and Lab costs around Rs.60000/- per month.

Besides medical consultation, we have Physiotherapy block wherein specialist provides care everyday between 4 – 6 pm.  The fees for this centre is provisionally put at Rs.100 per person.  We soon would have Dental care too.  The equipments have been installed and some finer aspects are being taken care of.  We are in the final stages of strategizing ‘Nursing care’ – as per our initial plan, those recuperating from medical condition can avail this facility where nursing care would be provided on a short-term basis.

We look forward to the fullest cooperation, suggestions and help in execution from all our members, volunteers and well-wishers.  SYMA thanks all its patrons, well-wishers, volunteers and members for ensuring the growth of our service activities.  Mr TJ Ramani, Founder Member proposed Vote of Thanks.

Our thanks are due to all our patrons and well-wishers and especially all those who have contributed in money and material for infrastructure creation in the new building.  Our thanks are due to :  M/s Manpower Services; Vasavi Constructions, Dr K Sridhar, Kanchi Kamakoti Sankara Medical Trust, Mr M Balasubramanyam, Mangal Tirth Estates, Sri R Vijayaraghavan, Akshaya Athreya Trust, Triplicane Brahmins Welfare Trust [Sri Kanchi Krishna & KV Rangarajan]; Lucas TVS Indian Services; Mr Saminathan, Sri Partha Builders; Sri J Venkatesan  and multitude of others.
