Owner is away !  Shop is protected !!

 

Dogs have been domesticated and have been  used as guardians since ancient times. The ancient Romans placed Cave canem mosaics at the entrance of homes to warn visitors and intruders of the presence of dangerous dogs at the property.  

Some dogs have a natural instinct to protect their home and family and they make excellent Guard Dogs. Guardian breeds tend to be loyal, fearless, strong and watchful. If you want a breed that will not only alert you when a visitor arrives, but will also intuitively know when to protect you from a dangerous situation than Guardian breeds are for you.   One of the first dog types used as guardians were Mastiff-type landraces of livestock guardian dogs, which protected livestock against large predators such as wolves, bears and leopards. 

In Greek mythology, Orthrus  was a livestock guardian dog known for guarding Geryon's red cattle.   Orthrus,  according to the mythographer Apollodorus, was a two-headed dog who guarded Geryon's cattle and was killed by Heracles.  He was the offspring of the monsters Echidna and Typhon, and the brother of Cerberus, who was also a multi-headed guard dog
