Beauty is skin deep and is in the eyes of beholder !! A beauty pageant is a competition that has
traditionally focused on judging and ranking the physical attributes of the
contestants. Pageants now claim to evaluate inner beauty, with criteria
covering judging of personality, intelligence, talent, character, and
charitable involvement, through private interviews with judges and answers to
public on-stage questions.

radiates not only in our spirits, but in our hearts and the way we conduct

A person’s age might be just a number, the first strand of grey
hair, the first wrinkle, the first year of a new decade — all mark a new
milestone in the journey of life. Whether we embrace it with fervor or disdain
is up to us. The pro-aging or anti-anti-aging movement is picking up in different parts of the world.
Early millennials and boomers (people over the age of 50 years) are embracing
natural beauty as time’s gift. The focus isn’t on anti-aging but aging with
grace taking care of one’s physical and
mental health.
People ascribing to the idea of transient beauty view physical
beauty, like glowing skin, as a temporary form that fades over time. They approach the topic of beauty from the
perspective of lack — the mindset that beauty depletes with age. People ascribing to the concept of timeless
beauty believe that attitude and mindset ignite an inner glow that is
immortal.

Do you like Yellow ! ~ not long ago, Chepauk would be painted yellow as thousands would descend on the stadium cheering for Chennai Super Kings ! – now blaming CSK after every game is a fad on social media !!!
Huang He floods, (1887, 1931, 1938), series of devastating floods in China caused by the overflowing of the Huang He (Yellow River), the country’s second longest river, three floods collectively killed millions and are considered to be the three deadliest floods in history and among the most destructive natural disasters ever recorded.
Couple of days back at Bengaluru, it was 40 overs of high octane and it appeared that CSK might pull it off. Chasing 214 – aided by brilliant 94 by Ayush Mhatre & 77 by Ravindra Jadeja – 15 needed off the final over which was bowled by Yash Dayal. The 4th ball was a bonanza – a high full toss, smashed out of sight by Shivam Dube and it was a simple 6 off 3. It further boiled down to 4 off the last ball. Yash Dayal continued his rise as one of RCB's most reliable bowlers, defending 15 runs in the final overs and bowling a fine Yorker off the last delivery, giving the Men in Yellow the Deja Vu of last season and helping the Red and Gold side complete a first-time double against CSK.
It’s been a common sight for the last several years to have the stands dominated by CSK yellow, even during away games. And in their home matches, it’s a sea of yellow. The CSK fans have generally had plenty of reason to cheer over the years, but in 2025, the team is sitting at the bottom of the points table, and looks likely to stay there.
The fickle CSK fan who is now criticizing everything from retention, to team selection often forgets the mighty fact that CSK is the joint-most successful IPL franchise (along with Mumbai Indians), having won five IPL titles. It has also appeared in ten finals and qualified for the playoff stages 12 times, the most amongst the IPL teams. The franchise has also won the Champions League Twenty20 twice in 2010 and 2014.
It’s been a dire season for Chennai Super Kings. In IPL 2025, they’ve lost games at home to RCB, DC and most recently SRH - each of whom had almost never succeeded in beating the five-time champions when playing at Chepauk. Coach Stephen Fleming said there would be a lot of “soul searching” and it started with him, as the man on top. Fleming also said that the team was left feeling very empty especially because they couldn’t live up to the expectations of their fans, who have been thronging the stadiums at home and away.
Moving away from CSK but keeping Yellow - Flowers

On seeing a rose, you struggle to decide whether to take up a close-up of the Rose, its petals or have a long shot .. .. and seeing a bloomed yellow rose at my terrace, am wondering whether it is the flower or the green leaves which are more attractive!

life has come in full circle – on that day, he was taken for 5 sixers off the
last over by a marauding Rinku Singh and had figures of 4-0-69-0; now he has
developed into a fine death bowler. That
day as he prepared to bowl, he was given loads of advice with Jayant Yadav and
Rashid Khan animatedly telling him what to bowl – now for the bowler from Uttar
Pradesh born in 1977 is hailed as cool

Cyclone Fengal ! – was the threat real ? – did it really bring in rains as hyped !? As Cyclone 'Fengal' approaches the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, heavy and widespread rainfall is expected in most parts of the state, even as educational institutions are closed in parts of the State. Cyclone Fengal is forecast to intensify within the next 24 hours. "It is likely to move north-northwestward and likely to cross between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram by 30th morning. Under the influence of this system, rainfall is likely to occur in the next 2-3 days, fairly widespread moderate rainfall in most of the parts of Tamil Nadu !!!!
Amidst this wind and rains, this beautiful Rose blossomed. They are beautiful .. .. though there are hundreds of variants, most common is a ‘Red Rose’ but can one imagine them being associated with wars and brutal killings !! Legendary director CV Sridhar was associating MS Viswanathan for long but in 1982 chose to combine with Isaignani Ilayaraja in his film ‘Ninaivellam Nithya’ starring Karthick and Jiji (Gigi) [Dr Jayalakshmi Sridhar]. Jiji after this film moved on to medical field for practice and became a successful Doctor. The movie perhaps flopped commercially but was a superhit for the songs.

Gardenia
jasminoides, commonly known as gardenia and cape jasmine, is an evergreen
flowering plant in the coffee family Rubiaceae. It is native to parts of
South-East Asia. They have a rounded habit with very dense branches with
opposite leaves that are lanceolate-oblong, leathery or gathered in groups on
the same node and by a dark green, shiny and slightly waxy surface and
prominent veins. With its shiny green leaves and heavily fragrant white summer
flowers, it is widely used in gardens in warm temperate and subtropical
climates.
German-Dutch
botanist Georg Rumphius had seen Gardenia jasminoides on the island of Amboina
(Ambon), noting in his Herbarium Amboinense around 1700 that it was a
"delightful ornament" called catsjopiri or catsjopiring in Malay. He
reported that it had been imported there from Batavia (Jakarta). Swedish taxonomist Carl Linnaeus recognized
the value of Rumphius' work and assigned his student Olaf Stickman to study it.
Stickman's dissertation was printed in 1754. He subsequently described the
species as Varneria augusta. English naturalist John Ellis described Gardenia
jasminoides in 1761, having realised on
dissecting the flower that it was not closely related to jasmine and warranted
a new genus. He had initially proposed Warneria after the original plant's
owner in England. However, Warner declined to have it named for him and so
Ellis chose Gardenia to honour Scottish naturalist Alexander Garden. Linnaeus gave it the name Gardenia florida in
1762 in the second edition of his Species Plantarum !!

movie “Vellai Roja” (White Rose) released in 1983 directed by A. Jagannathan, a musical hit with score by Illayaraja. It featured Sivaji, Ambika, Calcutta
Viswanathan, Ambika, Radha, Prabu and Silk Smitha. It was a remake of the Malayalam film Post
Mortem which was remade in Telugu in 1984 as S.P. Bhayankar, in Kannada in 1988
as Dharmathma and in Hindi in 1993 as Tahqiqaat. This song was sung by SP Balasubramaniam and
S Janaki – to the tune of Isaignani Ilayaraja.

Morning most got up cheerfully reading that India successfully defended 120 – it is the joint-lowest target any team successfully defended in Men’s T20WC. Earlier Sri Lanka had done that against NZ in 2014.
7-1 India's head-to-head record against Pakistan in the Men's T20 World Cup, including one win via bowl-out in 2007. Their only defeat against Pakistan came in the 2021 edition in Dubai. Pakistan could not score 48 in the last 8 overs despite having 8 wickets and losing 5 of them.

Madhyamavati (madhyamāvati) is a rāga in Carnatic music, audava rāga ( meaning pentatonic scale), as it does not have all the seven musical notes (swaras). The equivalent of Madhyamavati in Hindustani music is Madhumad Sarang. It is considered a very auspicious rāgam and every Carnatic music concert ends with either a song in Madhyamavati or the ending of the last song is sung in this rāgam

For example, the saltwater crocodile, found near Australia, can bite nearly three times as hard as a lion or a tiger. Yet, the crocodile’s jaw is also incredibly sensitive to touch—even more sensitive than the human fingertip.
Digressing away, Feb 14 has link to some sad events – war & killing. The Arauco War was a long-running conflict between colonial Spaniards and the Mapuche people, mostly fought in the Araucanía region of Chile. The conflict began at first as a reaction to the Spanish conquerors attempting to establish cities and force Mapuches into servitude. It subsequently evolved over time into phases comprising drawn-out sieges, slave-hunting expeditions, pillaging raids, punitive expeditions, and renewed Spanish attempts to secure lost territories. Abduction of women and war rape was common on both sides.
The Mapuche uprising of 1655 was a series of coordinated Mapuche attacks against Spanish settlements and forts in colonial Chile. It was the worst military crisis in Chile in decades, and contemporaries even considered the possibility of a civil war among the Spanish. The uprising marked the beginning of a ten-year period of warfare between the Spanish and the Mapuche. On the morning of February 14, 1655 - Mapuches all over southern Chile —from Osorno to Maule River— launched attacks against Spanish estancias, forts and individuals. Mapuche slaves rose against their masters, men were killed while women and children were held hostages. Livestock was stolen and houses set afire. Arauco and Chillán were besieged. This last city was eventually evacuated by the Spanish.
Thavapudhalavan (transl. Precious Son) directed by Muktha Srinivasan starring Sivaji Ganesan and K. R. Vijaya was released in 1972 – strangely it had an English song sung by LR Easwari and Ajit Singh to the music of MS Viswanathan, lyricists being – Vaali and Randoor Guy.

Crocodiles, are generally large, ponderous, amphibious animals of lizard-like appearance and carnivorous habit belonging to the reptile order Crocodylia. Crocodiles have powerful jaws with many conical teeth and short legs with clawed webbed toes. They share a unique body form that allows the eyes, ears, and nostrils to be above the water surface while most of the animal is hidden below. The tail is long and massive, and the skin is thick and plated.
A dog can only snap its jaws shut with a force of 100 pounds per square inch. This is enough to cause a nasty injury to the top of one’s finger, but a croc could easily remove the whole hand, given that its jaw can exert a force of 3,000 pounds per square inch. Any small creature that is unfortunate enough to be snapped up by a crocodile is highly unlikely to see daylight again, its bones being crushed to pulp in no time at all.
However, despite the immense strength of the muscles that close a crocodile’s jaw (the same applies to alligators and caymans), those that open the jaw are considerably weaker. This means that it is possible to escape being eaten as long as one can prevent the jaws from opening in the first place, and this can indeed be done. You may have seen that crocodile catchers often try to snare and keep its jaws closed.
The crocodile’s jaw is covered with thousands of sense organs. “Each of the nerve endings comes out of a hole in the skull.” This arrangement protects the nerve fibers in the jaw while providing sensitivity that in some spots is greater than instruments could measure. As a result, the crocodile can distinguish between food and debris in its mouth. That is also how a mother crocodile can carry her hatchlings in her mouth without accidentally crushing them. The crocodile’s jaw is a surprising combination of power and sensitivity.
