Mounted Police of Madras

பண்டைய போர்களில் முக்கிய பங்கு வகித்தது குதிரை படை.  குதிரை என்றதுமே பலருக்கும் ராஜா  தேசிங்கு போன்று அடங்காத குதிரையை அடக்கி  அதன் மீது சவாரி செய்யும் மன்னர்களின்  நினைவு எழும்.  வீர நாராயண ஏரிக்கரை மீது ஒரு வாலிப வீரன் குதிரை ஏறிப் பிரயாணம் செய்த தமிழகத்து வீர சரித்திரத்தில் புகழ்பெற்ற வாணர் குலத்தைச் சேர்ந்த வல்லவரையன் வந்தியத்தேவன்  கல்கியின் பொன்னியின் செல்வன்  முக்கிய கதாபாத்திரம்.. 

In Chennai, there is unique Mounted Police Force – that dates back to British period - In 1926 a Mounted branch of Madras City Police was formed with 15 horses exclusively patrolling the  city.

 

Remember that there used to be more than 1 ½ dozen horses – but now a days find only 6 of them at Maria beach – here is a photo taken at Marina beach  this evening with the force marching in perfect symmetry
