PM visits AF base in Adampur - remembering those blasts, this day 17 years ago !!

So many Social media Lions have written on ‘ceasefire’ and what India should have done .. .. some recall of a sad terror attack this day 17 years ago !  .. .. and the poor or lack of response at that time !!

In a 22-minute address to the nation last night Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji  warned Pakistan against trying to violate that ceasefire, declaring Operation Sindoor will be re-activated if necessary.

When there were escalations of attacks, Pak waged a social media war with morphed images and false news !!  Pakistan claimed its missiles hit the runway at the Air Force base in Adampur in Punjab and put the base out of action for a year. Pakistan claimed its China-made JF-17 fighters destroyed the Russian-made S-400 missile defence system stationed there. Pakistan claimed it had destroyed fighter jets and radar stations. Pakistan also claimed it had killed 60 Indian soldiers in its assault.

Clearly nothing had happened and the Pak Army used morphed satellite images of the Adampur base - which played a key role in repelling waves of missiles and drones fired last week - to make ludicrous claims.  The best counter came this morning -  Prime Minister Narendra Modi's photograph from the base this morning; the PM interacted with soldiers stationed there and saluted their courage.  The salute was also a potent message to Pak - the S-400's missile stack was in the background.

In the midst of so much of news, India and Pakistan announced a truce on Saturday after four days of intense missile and drone barrage in the region's most serious military escalation since the Kargil war. The hostilities, triggered by a deadly terror attack in Kashmir, saw both nations target each other’s military infrastructure in a series of retaliatory strikes. The halt in fighting came after over 100 terrorists were killed by India in cross-border strikes under Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.  India conducted  precision missile strikes on nine terror hideouts belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, and Hizbul Mujahideen in Pakistan and POK. The Ministry of Defence said civilian and military structures were deliberately avoided.

On this day, 13th May 2008 occurred nine synchronized bomb blasts in Jaipur that stunned Nation.  Within a span of 15 minutes nine bombings took place killing 63 and injuring more than 200.  The bombs went off near historic monuments at one of the busiest times of the day. One of the bombs exploded close to Jaipur's most famous landmark, the historic Hawa Mahal (palace of winds).

Two days after the blasts, a previously unknown Islamic terrorist group known as Indian Mujahideen, sent an e-mail to Indian media in which they claimed responsibility for the attacks and said they would "demolish the faith (Hinduism)" of the "infidels of India". Indian Home Ministry sources said that a Bangladesh-based organization, Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami Bangladesh (HuJI) or "Islamic Holy War Movement", was suspected to be behind the attack.

The bombs were  RDX placed in bicycles;  blasts were synchronized to inflict maximum casualties. The first two blasts occurred at Manak Chowk and as the crowd ran towards Johri Bazar another two blasts near the National Handloom Centre blocked the exit point, pushing back the panicked crowd towards Tripolia Bazar and Chandpol area, where subsequent blasts caused maximum fatalities. The serial blasts created panic among Jaipur residents

India ordered an inquiry into the blasts while the Indian Home Ministry raised concerns that certain 'foreign elements' might be behind the attack. The President of India, Pratibha Patil expressed her grief at the loss of lives in the blasts and appealed for calm while the Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, pledged the Government of India's support to the state Government of Rajasthan and the victims' families.  The Prime Minister also said: The terrorists have the advantage of attacking by stealth but there is no lack of firmness in dealing with this menace. Foreign Minister of India, Pranab Mukherjee, said he was going to raise the issue of 'cross-border terrorism' with Pakistan's government during his visit to Islamabad; Indian Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, said that the blasts won't affect India's business climate.

That was the firm response and action !!!!  -  recently a  Jaipur court  awarded life imprisonment to four accused for their involvement in the live bomb detection case linked to the serial bomb blasts that devastated the city in May 2008. All four accused were Shahbaz Hussain, Sarwar Azmi, Mohammad Saif, and Saif-ur-Rehman  had previously been convicted in December 2019 for the eight serial blasts and sentenced to death, a verdict that was overturned by the Rajasthan high court in March 2023.

Jai Hind, Always stand for the Nation.
