Nation should mourn and
should be debating with concern this news ~ Five Indian soldiers have been
killed along the Line of Control in Kashmir, in another violation of the
ceasefire by Pakistan troops. In a
deadly instance of firing on Indian Army troops on the Line of Control from
Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, five Indian soldiers died in Poonch sector in Jammu
and Kashmir. Defence sources said that an unsuspecting Army patrol
walked into an ambush by 15 to 20 men, wearing Pakistan Army uniform, close to
Sarla and Chhaja posts, about one kilometre from the cross-LoC Trade
Facilitation Centre (TFC) of Chakan Da Bagh, in the early hours of Tuesday.
Five soldiers were killed in the intense firing. Four of them were from the 21
Bihar Regiment and one from the Maratha Light Infantry.
The killing of five troops from the 21 Bihar
Regiment, marks the first significant crisis in India-Pakistan relations since
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took power earlier this year. The ambush,
highly-placed army sources have told Firstpost, was almost certainly carried
out to retaliate against a series of successful Indian operations in the
northern stretches of the Line of Control. It targeted a routine patrol in a
relatively peaceful area, near the Chakan-da-Bagh cross-Line of Control trading
post. The sources said a sixth soldier on the patrol, who escaped the firing,
is being questioned to determine precisely what happened. Early accounts,
though, all point to a disciplined, military-style operation.
Firstpost reports that
there has been uptick since the near-war
of 2001-2002. In the last week of July alone, 12 jihadists were killed in
northern Kashmir’s Kupwara district— levels of infiltration not seen in years.
In the last major encounter, five terrorists were killed short of Hema post, on
the Line of Control in Kupwara. The Line of Control (LoC)in the Jammu region
has seen 42 exchanges of fire this year, the sources said, up from 28 in all of
2012.
But the blatant violation
of ceasefire has been so poorly handled by Indian politicians is the sad tinge.
The killings are real; Nation’s pride wounded; priceless lives of Army jawans
lost inside our territory but those in power are not clear in foreign policy
and make improper statements giving great leeway to the killers. Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah
condemned the attack and said such incidents would not help normalise ties
between the two countries. BJP hit out at the government asking if they had any
policy on dealing with Pakistan. “What is the govt’s policy on Pakistan? And
what are they doing… both China and Pakistan have been violating the border…,”
party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said. Congress leader Rajeev Shukla said the
incident was very unfortunate and the government will act according to the
provisions of law.
It was Defence Minister AK
Antony’s statement on killing that seems regrettable. He is quoted
as describing the intruders as ”terrorists along with persons dressed in
Pakistan Army uniform” while an Army spokesman said “soldiers from Pak Army”
were involved. Defence spokesman, Jammu,
SN Acharya said the Indian Army patrol was ambushed by a Pakistan Border Action
Team(BAT) ~ and here’s what the Defence
Minister read out in Parliament: “A patrol of Indian Army comprising of one Non
Commissioned Officer and five Other Ranks was ambushed on our side of Line of
Control in Punch Sector of J&K early morning on August 6, 2013. In the
ensuing firefight, five Indian soldiers were martyred and one soldier was
injured. The ambush was carried out by approximately 20 heavily armed
terrorists along with persons dressed in Pakistan Army uniforms.
The numbers of
infiltration attempts have doubled this year in comparison to the corresponding
period; there have also been 57 Cease Fire.
The Defence Minister defended himself after being criticised by the BJP
for giving Pakistan an escape route by calling the attackers ‘terrorists’ and
hinting that they were not Pakistani army regulars. Antony said that he had
made the statement on the basis of the limited information that he had.
The Army on Tuesday said
terrorists in groups of ten are trying to sneak inside Indian territory and
attack troops at border posts.
When the killings are real
~ it is the Nation which is the only important thing ~ everything else are no
priority….. when the neighbor is so hostile, why have trade ~ and why play
sports – ban – banish everything Pakistani… stop playing Cricket …. Salute
those army men killed in action and those who are protecting us
Jai Jawan
