" நாட்டியக் குதிரை!! நாலாயிரம் பொன் வாங்கலியோ'

Old timers would fondly remember movie – Chandralekha released in 1948 featuring TR Rajakumari, MK Radha, Ranjan.  Highlight of the movie was drum dance.  Huge drums are arranged in rows in front of the Palace. Chandralekha joins the dancers, who dance on the drums. Sasankan is impressed with Chandralekha's performance but, unknown to him, Veerasimhan's soldiers are hiding inside the drums. As the dance ends, they rush out and attack Sasankan's men. 

The movie was directed by -  Thoothukudi Govindachari Raghavachari (TGR)  scholar in Sanskrit and English, and  a lawyer of  the Madras High Court.  Read that he left midway and SS Vasan completed it -  yet  the drum-dance scene he directed remained in the film.  The scene involved 400 dancers and six months of daily rehearsals. It was designed by chief art director A. K. Sekhar, choreographed by Jayashankar and filmed with four cameras by Kamal Ghosh.  

உங்கள் கல்யாண ஜான்வாச ஊர்வலம் எப்படி நடந்தது - திறந்த மோரிஸ் அல்லது பிளைமவுத் கார் அல்லது குதிரை மீதா !!  வட இந்தியர்களின் கல்யாணங்களில், குதிரை மீது மாப்பிள்ளை, பேண்ட் வாத்தியம், குழுமி இருப்போர் நடனம் என சிறப்புற வந்து இறங்குவார்.  தமிழகத்தில் வசதி படைத்த பெரும்பாலானோர் வீட்டு சுபநிகழ்ச்சிகளில்,  நாட்டியக் குதிரைகளின் ஆட்டத்தைப் பார்க்கலாம்.  இந்த பாடலை கேட்டு ரசித்தது உண்டா ??

The movie had two music Directors :  S Rajeswara Rao for Western / light music songs and MD Parthasarathi for classical / carnatic music.  MDP was a Sangeetha bhushanam of Annamalai University.  He later scored in many Gemini studios movies like Madhana Kamarajan, Baktha Naradha, Gnana Soundari, Mangamma sabatham, Dasi Abaranji, Kannamma en kathali, Paduga Pattabishekam, Apporva sagotharargal. 

In the song mentioned above, it was MD Parthasarathi who voiced the part of the Horse singing !!
