Every day tens of thousands visit Chennai metropolis – they come from far off countries, States and from the villages of Tamil Nadu and neighbouring State too.
In tune with modern times, the golden rule is wherever one visits – whip out the Camera, hold it aloft – take a Selfie for posterity (nay not for memories) – more for posting instantly on social media !!
For beginners – it is advised to hold the Phone camera at eye level rather than above head so that one does not look squashed, not too low down or have a double chin. You are advised to look into the lens straight on to avoid shifty eyes. To look your best, photograph yourself at a slight three quarter angle.
Selfies are intended to present a flattering image of the person, especially to friends whom the photographer expects to be supportive. Some are interested in group Selfie while some prefer having them alone !! and there could be some spoilers – photo bombers too.
Chennai
to such travelers does not offer much – now this
newly made Selfie point at Marina beach (in front of Presidency College) could
enthuse many to take a photo. Little would such
visitors realize that they are in front of a great Educational Institution
dating more than 175 years – the oldest in South India, Presidency College.
In
1840, was
established as the Madras Preparatory School before being repurposed as a high
school, and then a graduate college. It is one of two Presidency Colleges
established by the British in India, the other being the Presidency College,
Kolkata. The preparatory school shifted
to Popham's Broadway in 1841, grew to a College, and was the forerunner for
University of Madras to which it got affiliated. In
1870, the college moved to its present location in Kamaraj Salai, opposite
Marina Beach.
