Thirush Kamini's ton helps India beat WI by huge margin

Long ago, on June 21,2011, I had posted about Indian debutant at Sabina Park – Abhinav Mukund and had queried whether you can identify this cricketer whose name is :  Murugesan Dickeshwashankar   ___________ ?

Today the whole Cricketing fraternity would recognize her instantaneously : – it is Indian Woman Cricketer : Murugesan Dickeshwashankar Thirush Kamini, a player from Tamilnadu !  and she made a century today in the first ODI against WI helping India to win by a big margin.

In 2011, when BCCI awards were presented – Tendulkar was the India’s cricketer of the year.  Salim Durrani received the lifetime achievement award.   Karnataka's Manish Pandey picked up the award for best batsman in domestic cricket, having scored 882 runs in nine Ranji Trophy  matches.  Fast bowler Abhimanyu Mithun, who claimed 47 wickets in the competition, was named best bowler. Alongside - M A Chidambaram Trophy for best woman cricketer was presented to Thirushkamini.   At that time she had played 21 one dayers and was known as somebody who bowls right arm leg spin and bats too.,

Today at Brabourne stadium in Mumbai , in ODI 845 [Women] – the first match of WC 2013, she had 175 run partnership with PG Raut and by the time she got out after 42 overs, the score was a healthy 224, Kamini had made a century and was run out.    The No. 1 batswoman of  the tourney Mithali Raj had little to do as India finished at 284/6.  WI were allout for 179 giving India a big 105 run victory.   Julan Goswami bowled a miserly spell giving 13 in her 9.3 and picking up 2.  The other from Tamil Nadu, Niranjana, right arm fast medium bowler went for some runs giving 52 off 9 but picking up 3 wickets.

It is a great performance by Thirush Kamini considering the fact that she was seriously injured in a match in 2010 and that injury was threatening her career.  Now she joins the long list of  women cricketers, who have made a century in One dayer ~ the tenth  by an Indian; and the present Indian Captain Mithali Raj has 3 of them. Would be a bit stale to restate that the first double century in ODI was hit by Australian Belinda Clarke way back in 1997; she made an unbeaten 229 at Mumbai against Denmark, which after 42 years of ODI and  matches by men, still remains the highest in ODI
