India's loss at Trent Bridge and some update on cricket

Things  do keep happening the way it happened at Trentbridge yesterday – a defeat by a huge margin of 319 runs.  In another 7 or 8 years, we will see Arjun scoring a century against Vanautu.

It was sheer frustration and agony for the Indian cricket fan. If you want update on cricket read this one below :

Nepal went top of the table with a crushing 159-run win over Vanuatu at YMCA Club. Ireland stayed in touch at the top with their third win of the tournament, a tight two-wicket final-over victory over Kenya at Observatory Lane. Mital Patel's six-wicket haul propelled USA  to victory against Afghanistan.  Namibia  pulled off their third win in four games when they overhauled Canada.   Those were the results of ICC Under-19 World Cup Qualifier and perhaps would find more interesting read than India’s performance against England.

World no. 1 is mere statistics – sometimes meaningless statistics but India did not strive enough to retain it is anguishing.  English men were professional and the result was a devastating defeat.  Statistics may reveal that it is long since India lost two tests in a row – that too a test where England were 124 for 8 on the first day.  This time, we succumbed to a new bowler – Tim Bresnan.  Bresnan, Broad and the tail continued to make huge runs and in every sense this was humiliating.

India clearly went underprepared.  Sehwag is out, Gambhir sat out for this, Zaheer was unfit, Harbhajan turned unfit, Ishant and Praveen dreary – but still the World class batting line up crumbled.  Dravid forced to open was lost early and that exposed Laxman who is more adept at no. 5 or 6.   there will always be unanswered questions on the fitness levels of some players and uncomfortable Questions like why Sehwag did not undergo shoulder surgery immediately after WC but played till DD were out of IPL ?

The victory went not only to a better team but the one who were keen and mentally agile. And that provides a lot of lessons.

Statistically, the margin by defeat [in terms of runs alone] suffered by India yesterday is 36th in the list and above is the first 15 worst defeats.  There are seven instances of Teams losing by an innings and 300+ runs and here is the list

Arjun is 11, he is the son of Sachin.  Vanautu is an  island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean. The archipelago, which is of volcanic origin, is some 1,750 kilometres (1,090 mi) east of northern Australia.
